Cilegon as an Industrial and Tourisme City - Cilegon City Urban Design Competition

Cilegon as an Industrial and Tourism City: Walkable, Sustainable, and Iconic Urban Living

Cilegon City is an industrial city that seeks to create a sustainable environment, then combined with geographical conditions and strategic location as a tourism potential so that it can improve the welfare of the city”

Through a feasibility study based on the land use scenario master plan. It is hoped that the focus point will strengthen the image of the area through the community using the corridor who will then become assessors of its visual impact.

In general, the general public’s perfection of Cilegon is as; industrial area, the main gateway to Java Island from Sumatera Island, and as a city / region with land traffic routes for various types of vehicles. On the other hand, many people do not know much about the other potentials stored in Cilegon, namely the existing tourism side. So this design will support / strengthen the vision / determination of the Cilegon city government. As tangible resources, intangible resources will grow.

The planning corridor in the Pulomerak areas has the character of “Industrial, tourism, and port”, where the industrial area, then the port area and the natural tourism area come together into one. Economically, the Pulomerak has the potential to grow big over a fast period of time, because with the development of industry, the population will quickly increase, so this must be anticipated with city planning that is appropriate to its future function.

The city of Cilegon, which is in Banten Province, is a city that clearly shows the urban morphology that has occurred, namely changes in the function of the city. Before becoming a Municipality, this area used to function as a stopover for the Dutch who controlled many parts of Indonesia, then became known as a rice field area with abundant rice harvest, then changed its orientation to the area connecting the Islands of Sumatera and Java, and is now known as as city of steel.
