Integrated Forest Farming Learning Center (IFFLC) UGM
Design Concept of the Integrated Forest Farming Learning Center (IFFLC)
The Integrated Forest Farming Learning Center (IFFLC) is proposed to support the Integrated Forest Farming System (IFFS) at the Faculty of Forestry. Its core function is to strengthen IFFS theory and assemble appropriate technology, thereby developing the human resources necessary to master the system. The IFFLC is intended to become a national and international research and referral center for IFFS. The new building is planned to house studios, five centers, and various laboratories, covering areas such as environmental manipulation, tree improvement, silviculture and agroforestry, and forest protection and health.
Architectural and Site Concept
The building is situated in the Faculty of Forestry area, occupying the site of a previously demolished building. The architectural design is conceived to harmonize with existing UGM buildings, adopting a contemporary style while incorporating traditional idioms. These include a characteristic roof, architraves, a double skin façade, and a traditional stone-finished podium.
A distinct feature of the design is the entrance lobby block, which is styled with open pilotis. This open design allows pedestrians to pass freely through the building into the faculty's inner court. Furthermore, a green planting wall is integrated into the design to convey the faculty's mission and commitment to forestry. Vertical louvers and mechanical balconies are applied as standardized building design elements. The building is designed to be easily accessible from the surrounding inner court via an open walkway made of natural stone.
Sustainability Goal
The IFFLC, as part of UGM Building Design Package 3, has a clear sustainability objective: it is targeting a Gold certification rating under the Indonesian Greenship rating tool. This goal is integrated into the design to ensure environmental performance and resource efficiency.
